is located in the East Karakoram/Himalaya, at approximately 35.5° N 76.9° E. It is one of the five largest glaciers in the Karakoram, situated at an average altitude of 5,400 meters (~17,700 feet) above sea level. Most of the Siachen Glacier as is the LoC, a hotly contested territory between Pakistan and India.The Siachen glacier lies South of the great watershed that separates Central Asia from the Indian subcontinent, and Pakistan from China in this region. The 78 km long Siachen glacier lies between the Saltoro ridge line to the west and the main Karakoram range to the east. The Saltoro ridge originates from the Sia Kangri peak in the Karakoram range and the altitudes range from 5500 to 7300 m (18,000 to 24,000 feet). The glacier is located in the disputed Kashmir region and is claimed by India and Pakistan. In spite of the severe climate, the word `Siachen` ironically means `the place of wild roses`, a reference some people attribute to the abundance of Himalayan wildflowers found in the valleys below the glacier, but specifically refers to the thorny wild plants which grow on the rocky outcrops. The glacier is also the highest battleground on Earth, where India and Pakistan have fought intermittently since 1984. Both countries maintain permanent military personnel on the glacier at a height of over 7,000 metres. The site is a prime example of mountain warfare. The glacier`s melting waters are the main source of the Nubra River, which falls into the Shyok River. Fighting
In the 1970s and early 1980s Pakistan permitted several mountaineering expeditions to climb high peaks on this glacier. This was to reinforce their claim on the area as these expeditions arrived on the glacier with a permit obtained from the Government of Pakistan. Once having become aware of this in about 1978, Colonel N. Kumar of the Indian Army mounted an Army expedition to Teram Kangri peaks as a counter-exercise. The first public mention of a possible conflict situation was an article by Joydeep Sircar in The Telegraph newspaper of Calcutta in 1982, reprinted as “Oropolitics” in the Alpine Journal, London,in 1984. India launched Operation Meghdoot (named after the divine cloud messenger in a Sanskrit play) on 13 April 1984 when the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force went into the Glacier. Pakistan, which had also gotten wind of it quickly responded with troop deployments and what followed was literally a race to the top. Within a few days, the Indians were in control over most of the glacier as Pakistan were beaten by just a week. The two passes due to Indian military pre-emption – Sia La and Bilfond La were secured by India while the Gyong La pass remained under Pakistan control. Since then both sides have launched several attempts to displace each others forces, but with little success.
Current situation
The Indian Army controls a few of the top-most heights, holding on to the tactical advantage of high ground, however with Pakistani forces in control of Gyong La pass, Indian access to K-2 and other surrounding peaks has been blocked effectively and mountaineering expeditions to these peaks continue to go through with the approval of the Government of Pakistan. The situation is as such that Pakistanis cannot get up to the glacier, while the Indians cannot come down. Presently India holds two-thirds of the glacier and commands two of the three passes including the highest motorable pass – Khardungla Pass. Pakistan controls Gyong La pass that overlooks the Shyok and Nubra river Valley and India`s access to Leh district. The battle zone comprised an inverted triangle resting on NJ 9842 with Indira Col and the Karakoram Highway as the other two extremities. Every year more soldiers are killed because of severe weather than enemy firing. The two sides have lost close to 4,000 personnel primarily due to frostbites, avalanches and other complications. Both nations have 150 manned mirroring outposts along the glacier, with some 3,000 troops each. Official figures for maintaining these outposts are put at ~$300 and ~$100 million for India and Pakistan respectively. The Indians rely on helicopters made indigenously, which are probably the only choppers that can reach such heights, whereas Pakistan has simplified the logistical nightmare by building roads and paths to all of its positions across the glacier. India has also built the world`s highest helipad on this glacier at a place called Sonam, which is 21,000 feet above the sea level, to serve the area and ensure that her troops are kept supplied via helicopter support (adding to considerable cost).During her tenure as Prime Minister of Pakistan, Ms Benazir Bhutto, visited Gyong La pass making her the first premier from either side to vist the glacier. On June 12, 2005, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the glacier calling for a peaceful resolution of the problem. In the previous year, the President of India, Abdul Kalam became the first head of state to visit the area. India based Jet Airways plans to open a chartered service to the glacier`s nearest airlink, the Thoise airbase, mainly to fly the soldiers. Pakistan`s PIA flies tourists and trekkers daily to Skardu, which is the jumping off point for K2, although bad weather frequently grounds these scheduled flights.The glacier`s melting waters are the source of the river Indus, a vital water source for both India and Pakistan. Global warming has had its worst impact here in the Himalayas with the Glacier melting at an unprecedented rate.On average, one Pakistani soldier is killed every fourth day, while one Indian soldier is killed every other day. Over 1,300 Pakistani soldiers have died on Siachen between 1984 and 1999. According to Indian estimates, this operation had cost India over Rs. 50 billion and almost 2,000 personnel casualties till 1997. Almost all of the casualties on both sides have been due to extreme weather conditions.

I am a student of history and wonder why did the Indians let Pakistan plunder all the wealth from Bangla Desh and then take it to Indian prisons and POW camps from where they allowed them to repatriate the wealth of Bangla Desh to Pakistan?
Could any wise Indian give a plausible explanation?
OH India ! Behold the face that defeated India in cricket and proved the common sentiment and aspirations of the Bengla people.We lament the policies of our present government who are shamefully pro Indian. Who in the world could think that India could be defeated by the new state of Bangladesh? I am sure the clever people in India will profess that India purposefully lost the game to foster stronger ties with Bangla people, if that is so then why did Siachin Tendlukar make a century?
Looking retrospectively into history we observe that it was Bangla people who made Pakistan and when they felt they needed greater autonomy they created Bangla Desh which the Indians cleverly construed as their victory!
Wel done India wait till the reality dawns upon you.

If the Siachin Glacier was a part of India,why did the Indian Army need to launch an Operation Code Named Operation Meghdoot, on 13 April 1984 when the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force went into the Glacier.They did not encounter any Pakistani Troops or the most dreaded Terrorists on the Glacier.Pakistan Army responded by deploying troops by helicopters on the Western Flanks of this glacier. It was only in the Golden Temple and in Kashmir that the Indian Army launched operations.
The altitude(17000 ft to 21000 ft) and climatic conditions of the Siachin Glacier testify that except for stupid military men, no one else would invest so much of lives, equipment and resources on such a quixotic mission which has cost India over 50 Billion.If the Indian Generals had not indulged in amassing plots and wealth, they should have cashiered the officers who presented this stupid idea of investing so many lives and resources in an area which has cost so much and taken so many lives.
I am sure emotions on both sides of the border are going to result in irrational and emotional responses but to get a cool and realistic answer, just ask a national of another country to comment on this venture, I am sure the realistic and frank answer would be that whoever planned and executed this operation was an IDIOT, because twenty years hence it has not achived any aim. Rather now Pakistan is not in any hurry to disarm in Siachin since India is constantly Bleeding here.
We blame each other and in the process even mislead our people to distort history, but we tend to forget the consequences of our own actions because we do not want to accept out mistakes and succumb to our idiosyncrasies.
I do not want to indulge in a thesis but will only give the example of how India invested in the creation of Bangla Desh and dismemberment of Pakistan. Now the Result is that the same Bengalis hate India for their hegemony. There have been border skirmishes between the Armies and the Brotherhood fostered by India could not survive.Just to mention a root cause here, of which most are not aware. When the instrument of surrender in the 1971 war was to be signed in Dacca,COL M.A.G. Osmani, Cin C of |Bangladesh forces was prevented by an Indian conspiracy from attending the proceedings because that would shadow the Indian Victory. Did any one ever question where was the Bangladeshi C in C. I LEAVE THIS AS A FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR Indians. Why is it that all your neighbors do not trust you?be it Nepal, China , Sri Lanka, BanglaDesh , Pakistan, Maldives or Myanmar.This is what is the Indian reputation abroad, and not a matter of Pride for any Indian.
I attribute this short coming in Indian Attitude to the Indian Mindset and the monopoly of the Indian Intelligence services over the role of the Foreign Office. Please ask this question from officers of the Indian Superior Services particularly the Foreign Services, you will get the answer from the horses mouth.The officers of Military Intelligence and RAW posted in foreign missions call the shots. After all how can they compensate for the diplomatic experience of Diplomats?

And honestly- I am hating to look at it, guys! hey iyesha u don’t know any thing, pandit does not means wearing dhoti and praying to god.pandit and brahmin are the same thing .In hindiusm only pandit/brahmin are allowed to perform ritual ceremonies but that does not means we cannot use internet.
also pandit is one who perform rituals in temple and he belongs to brahmin caste(jati)
